A study conducted at the University of Western Australia compared the long-term effectiveness of leucocyte-rich platelet-rich plasma (LR-PRP) injections to corticosteroid injections (CSI) for treating chronic gluteal tendinopathy. Eighty patients were randomized to receive either LR-PRP or CSI, with follow-up extending to two years. The results showed that patients receiving LR-PRP experienced significantly greater improvement in pain and function at 24 weeks, with benefits sustained over two years. In contrast, the benefits of CSI were not maintained beyond 24 weeks.
