Summary:
This study evaluated the efficacy of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy in reducing pain and improving physical ability in patients with chronic plantar fasciitis. The randomized trial included 32 patients who were divided into two groups: one receiving PRP injections and the other receiving corticosteroid injections. PRP-treated patients showed significant improvement in pain and physical function over a six-month period, particularly evident after three months, compared to the corticosteroid group. While both treatments provided relief, PRP's effects were more sustained, with patients experiencing lasting benefits in pain reduction and mobility improvement.
The findings suggest that PRP is a viable alternative to corticosteroids for managing plantar fasciitis, especially for patients seeking long-term relief without the side effects associated with steroids. This evidence can help doctors explain the advantages of PRP to patients by highlighting its prolonged effects and potential for fewer repeat treatments, making it a compelling choice for those dealing with persistent heel pain.
